As an introduction to Bollywood style and make-up I’ve created a modern take on Aishwarya Rai’s makeup in the 2002 classic ‘Devdas’ A good place to start, especially if you are a newbie to Bollywood! Have fun re-creating (and send me pics please!).

I only use products I personally think are good having tried them on myself and my clients but everyone’s skin is different and it’s possible to be allergic to anything. I only feature products I like, or want to try. The products I use in these videos are either purchased by me or sent to me by make-up companies to use in my professional capacity as a make-up artist for fashion and celebrity photo shoots, red carpet etc. I am also sent products by many of the top magazines to judge for awards.

I do not accept payment and am not sponsored to make any of the films on this channel. Some of the links under the videos and blog posts on my site are affiliated however and as stated before, I only feature products I like, or want to try.

  1. Hi lisa. I am indian.. and i totally lovedddd this tutorial. Dola re dola song is an iconic song for it has two beautiful actors in one frame and then their is obviously huge elaborate mansion where they are dancing. I appreciate how wonderfully you recreated the look those ladies had on them.. I want to suggest you two more movies as those ones have stunning makeup looks throughout the movie.. one is deepika padukone's look in BAJIRAO MASTANI… and another one is Aishwarya rai's look in UMRAO JAAN.

  2. Devdas 2002 film was actually a recreation. It was originally a bengali novel. The first HINDI devdas came out in 1936 then again in 1955 then FINALLY in 2002. There are others adaptations ranging from the Bengal state all the way to Malayalam to Urdu to Assamese. It's one of my favorite novels, and if anyone can read Bengali, I highly recommend reading the original story because it really captures the travesty of Deva and Paro's star crossed love and Chandramukhi's yearning for Deva's attention.

Loved the makeup look, as it was essentially very "Bollywood"! Please PLEASE look into bengali bridal inspired makeup and do recreation of it, because I think with your artistry, Lisa, I believe you can do something exquisite!

Giving lots of love and support! 😀

  3. Thank you, Lisa, for using an actual South Asian model for this look, and not being offensive and appropriative. It's so hard to find beauty gurus online that are educated to social issues and sensitive to how to show makeup looks from around the world without being bigoted and ignorant. THANK YOU. PS. PLEASE BRING THIS MODEL BACK. She is heartbreakingly gorgeous and it's so good to see models of color on your channel!

  4. I'd like to request an iconic Bollywood makeup look from the film Mughaleazam, of the actress Madhubala. She looks beautiful and I always wanted to recreate that soft, subtle yet alluring look. I hope you do decide to do it! <3

  5. ohh, she is beautiful! i cant help myself, i know, she is a Indian girl, but before wearing whole clothes she looked almost like Gina Torres in Suits, i love her look, best work Lisa!
